Fortress/Temple Ponies' Cutie Marks [Canon] by Lahirien Fortress/Temple Ponies' Cutie Marks [Canon] by Lahirien
These are all the cutie marks I could catch for the ponies in Ahuizotl's fortress. I'm not sure what the rocky figure is supposed to be (humans confirmed for paleopony period?), and the Mayan pyramid thing was never shown close enough to replicate the trees, so I modified *The-Smiling-Pony's [link].

I'll update this when the color-corrected iTunes episode comes out.

From S4E04 "Daring Don't". Refs: [link]

"Color-corrected"? As if the TV broadcast is better than the iTunes files?

For these I used the raw TV rip. Then on Monday the raw iTunes version comes out, which is better. THEN the iTunes version is color corrected by ZR on YayPonies which, though it's not an entirely lossless procedure, it results in the best version overall. The effect is comparable to the difference between season 1 Australia and US iTunes versions. screenshotcomparison.com/compa…

If you ask me, you shouldn't have to modify at all the material as it comes directly from the source (TV or iTunes). Modifying the color after the fact is ocd-like and nitpicking.

It matters for Vector artists, as one of the things we do is try to reverse-engineer exactly how the show artists built the scenes, including figuring out color and opacity on multi-layer effects. (%MLP-VectorClub actually has a painstakingly sampled color guide that we are required to use.)

The source would be Flash files or the original render. TV rips are unacceptable because of the logos, and the videos that pass through iTunes' hands frequently end up washed out. This is almost certainly introduced during encoding once the product leaves the studio, as we see major differences in quality between the AU and US version.

And what about DVDs or (hypothetically) Blu-rays? (We have a Blu-ray of Equestria Girls.) Do those have "bad" colors, too? And what makes you so sure of the "proper" colors in the Flash files used by DHX? Are you comparing to printed/promotional material?

DVDs are low-res and highly compressed (believe me, I've seen the pony DVDs). Blu-ray would be awesome since a third party doesn't have to mess with it, but we don't have those yet. The raw blu-ray for EQG is fine, but it's either a disk or 17 GB, so any lossy encodes need to be color corrected.

I think we average colors between the dozens of episodes or identical lighting situations. Also I suspect we had some "word from god" input, so to speak, on the main characters.

The only official color I know of is Vinyl Scratch as #FEFDE7.
